Engagement, Proposal, and Family Photography Guide for Falmouth, Cape Cod
From Falmouth to the National Seashore beaches, each part of the Cape has its own special charm. Cape Cod has always been a special place for many couples and families, and I’m very familiar with all the Cape towns and have loads of suggestions if you need them!
Planning Your Surprise Proposal
Cape Cod surprise proposal sessions take place within 90 minutes after sunrise or 90 minutes before sunset. If you want a majority of your photos by the ocean where you aren’t squinting into the sun then I suggest selecting a location where the sun is either rising or setting over the ocean to give you that dreamy backlit look. I’ll also be researching the tide charts for our beach session so you’ll have the widest amount of sandy beach to walk on- plus less seaweed!

Scheduling and Availability
I photograph Cape Cod surprise proposals Monday-Thursday during wedding busy season May-October. If you are proposing in my wedding off season November-April, I may have Friday-Sunday availability. Reach out in my contact form here to see if I’m available!

Choosing the right spot is essential for the perfect shot. Here are the top recommendations for different times of day:

Sunset Beach Locations
- First Encounter Beach
- Mayflower Beach
- Rock Harbor Beach
- Paine’s Creek Beach
Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Nauset Beach, and Nauset Light Beach are still good options for those who would rather the glowy backlit photos to be by the dunes but just be aware the sun won’t set on this side of the Cape.
Engagement and Family Portrait Sessions
One of my absolute favorite things about winter is that the sun begins to set in the early afternoon leaving us with so much beautiful golden light… For engagement sessions, we can begin at a family’s home and end at Falmouth Heights Beach with a lot of laughter. It was only fitting for Joe to pop the question close to his family’s home in gorgeous Falmouth, taking more photos at Menauhant Beach across the street.
As a Falmouth family photographer, the top of my preferred spots for any type of photoshoot is Nobska Beach with a stunning view of Nobska Lighthouse. I truly felt in love with all the gorgeous places I explored and used as a background for my family photo sessions.
