Cape Cod Surprise Proposal Photography Guide
Cape Cod has always been a special place. From Falmouth to the National Seashore beaches, each part of the Cape has its own special charm. This blog post highlights a Falmouth beach proposal, captured by Cape Cod proposal photographer Meghan Lynch. I’m very familiar with all the Cape towns and have loads of suggestions if you need them!
Planning Your Cape Cod Proposal Session
What time of day do Cape Cod proposal sessions take place? Cape Cod surprise proposal sessions take place within 90 minutes after sunrise or 90 minutes before sunset. If you want a majority of your photos by the ocean where you aren’t squinting into the sun then I suggest selecting a location (I’ll help with suggestions) where the sun is either rising or setting over the ocean to give you that dreamy backlit look. To ensure the best environment, I’ll also be researching the tide charts for our beach session so you’ll have the widest amount of sandy beach to walk on- plus less seaweed!
Cape Cod Proposal Backdrop Options
- Ocean views
- Sandy beaches
- Lighthouses
- Towering dunes
- Beaches with the best chance for seal sightings
Best Locations for Your Proposal
Choosing the right location depends on your preferred timing. Every season holds the promise of love and adventure. My favorite locations for a sunrise beach proposal include Nobska Beach, Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Nauset Beach, Nauset Light Beach, Marconi Beach, and White Crest Beach. For those looking for the evening glow, my favorite locations for a sunset beach proposal include First Encounter Beach, Mayflower Beach, Rock Harbor Beach, and Paine’s Creek Beach.
| Session Type | Recommended Cape Cod Locations |
|---|---|
| Sunrise Proposal | Nobska Beach, Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Nauset Beach, Nauset Light Beach, Marconi Beach, White Crest Beach |
| Sunset Proposal | First Encounter Beach, Mayflower Beach, Rock Harbor Beach, Paine’s Creek Beach |
Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Nauset Beach, and Nauset Light Beach are still good options for those who would rather the glowy backlit photos to be by the dunes but just be aware the sun won’t set on this side of the Cape.
Real Life Inspiration: Jenna & Joe
Jenna & Joe met in high school (starting out as close friends) and remember having their first dates at one of the restaurants at the Natick Mall when they were 16. It was only fitting for Joe to pop the question close to his family’s home in gorgeous Falmouth. We took more photos at Menauhant Beach across the street then these two were off to celebrate with dinner & cozy up by a fire later in the evening.
