The photographer worked with the Marketing Director to develop a visual identity for the hotel through photography - creating a rich, dark and eccentric vibe. Each amenity in the hotel has a different personality: the garage bar is grungy and gritty, the cafe is bright and airy, and the rooms are dramatic and bold. Technical Tips for Hotel Room Photography
The challenge with shooting hotel bedrooms is that there is a great big bed in the way. It’s best to keep the camera quite low and as far back as possible to ensure the bed does not look distorted. Most clients require wide shots of the whole bedroom in one picture, so use a hot shoe spirit level to ensure the lens is straight on and there are no converging verticals.
Regarding preparation, there is no point in shooting a hotel bedroom unless the linens look perfect; they should be clean and wrinkle-free. For lighting, utilize the natural and available light, then balance it with an off-camera flash to give a warm, inviting mood. When taking a shot with the window in the frame, always take one exposure for the room followed by one for the window, then put them together in Photoshop to get the maximum effect.
