Natural Newborn and Storytelling Photography in Cornwall

Natural newborn photography is an approach that focuses on the moments that really matter, what life right now looks like and, most importantly, what it feels like. There are a lot of rules in photography and there are a lot of rules in posed newborn photography, too. I used to worry a lot about the rules; I was always seeking perfection with many, many hours spent in the studio meticulously posing and styling. Until one day, I just stopped.

A Shift Toward Authentic Storytelling

I looked at this tiny baby on a grey blanket in front of me and thought, “What am I doing?” This isn’t the way I want to photograph a new life, perfectly styled and posed. I wanted to capture the real moments that tell a story of who these little people are, their first home and the family they belong to. Moments that mean something. I call it natural newborn photography. It is about embracing the reality of those first hazy weeks of life with your new baby.

Case Study: Baby Cody's Newborn Session

I was delighted to meet baby boy Cody at the studio recently for his newborn session. Cody was 12 days old and he was angelic and adorable. He slept well through a lot of his session, with breaks here and there to feed and cuddle. It was a relaxed, slow session and I love all the earth tones. I’ve photographed both of his cousins from birth as well, so it’s really lovely to be getting to know his side of the family. Plus, of course, I love newborns especially after doing the bump session - so exciting to meet the baby afterwards!
