Wedding Photography in Cornwall by Oliver Harris
Meet Cornish Wedding Photographer Oliver Harris. Oliver Harris shares the story behind his passion for wedding photography in Cornwall, and top tips for couples tying the knot.
The Story Behind the Lens
Born in Truro, Oliver Harris has lived in many different locations all across Cornwall. He has now settled down with his wife and daughter in Stithians. As a teenager, he lived next door to a church in St Agnes, and recalls the village full of stunning brides, dashing groomsmen and the sound of wedding bells. The wedding parties and their array of guests all coming together to celebrate such an important day sparked a fire in his belly. Oliver claims these fond memories shaped the beginning of his career. He decided to merge his fascination with weddings and his passion for photography. After studying photography at Truro College, Oliver began shooting weddings for a living, and the rest is history!
Excellence at The Alverton Hotel, Truro

The history, the stunning building architecture with its cathedral-like stonework and ornate stained glass windows, and of course the amazing staff. Everything is in one place. The amazing team go out of their way to ensure that your day runs smoothly and is memorable for all of the right reasons. On top of this, it is a romantic setting which provides stunning backdrops for the photographs taken. You will not be disappointed! Expert Tips for Tying the Knot
When planning your ceremony, Oliver says: I would advise them to consider what is really important to them on their big day and plan time for this to happen (adding an extra 20 minutes or more to this scheduled time as we know that things often stray from the plan). For me as a photographer the light is always better towards the end of the day; this is the perfect time for couple shots. It is also the ideal time for them to take a breath, have a moment to themselves and to get lost in each other’s embrace within an intimate setting.
As someone that recently got married, my advice would be to accept the help that your friends and family offer you in the lead up to your wedding and on the special day. Make the most of the expertise of the professionals around you. They have watched many weddings unfold and will have lots of good advice to share. But most importantly, this day is about YOU! Everything falls into place so take the time to step back and admire everything you have achieved.
The Booking Process
To ensure a perfect match, we arrange a coffee and a chat to talk about them and their big day. I really love to get to know the couples and give them the opportunity to get a feel for me as an individual and photographer. Once they’ve chosen to go ahead with booking me, I send a copy of the contract for them to look over and sign. Their wedding is then booked on receipt of a deposit. Following this, I attend as many catch ups as required before the special day.
What Couples Say
It’s hard to big myself up, so I’ll let others do it for me! “We had Oliver photograph our wedding and we honestly could not be happier. He blended into our day brilliantly and was so attentive with the photos that he took. Our guests all commented on how brilliant he was and we couldn’t agree more. Also, such a genuinely nice guy to have there on the day. We can’t wait to see our photos – the previews we have seen are incredible!”
Another client shares: “As the saying goes, pictures speak louder than words… and Ollie’s work says a thousand words. I would highly recommend Ollie to everyone. He was professional yet relaxed and nothing was too much for him. Open to any ideas you have, he genuinely cares about you and what you want to get out of the day.”
