Cornwall Wedding Photographer

Unposed, Natural, Relaxed Professional Photography

Hey! I'm Steven. I am a Cornwall Wedding Photographer. I have been professionally photographing weddings since 2004 and have captured hundreds of happy couples. Before I was a wedding photographer I was a professional music photographer working worldwide with big acts. My approach to wedding photography is simple: to create a whole story that documents your most important day in the most natural and beautiful way possible. Working on all that the pictures are captured for forever. I will always look to capture your special day naturally and organically, documenting the fun, laughter and happiness as and how it occurs. I cover set up, love, photographs of your big day directing you or your guests. I follow the narrative of the day and capture all of the magical moments.

From 4K to 8K: A Comprehensive Guide to Wedding Videography and Photography Advancement

Wedding videography has come a long way in recent years, from the early days of standard definition footage to the introduction of high definition 1080p video and, later, the stunning clarity of 4K resolution. However, the latest and greatest development in the world of video is the arrival of 8K resolution. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out in the industry, understanding the power and potential of 8K resolution is essential for staying at the forefront of this exciting field.

What is 8K Resolution and Why Does it Matter?

Simply put, 8K resolution is four times higher than 4K UHD and 16 times higher than Full HD. It is a video display format that offers approximately 8000 pixels of horizontal resolution. The higher the resolution, the more pixels fit on the screen size, increasing their density and making the image sharper and more realistic. This megapixel resolution provides a more immersive viewing experience, drawing the viewer into the action on the screen.

The benefits of shooting in 8K are undeniable, from capturing more detail and allowing for greater flexibility in post-production to future-proofing your content for emerging technologies. With each passing year, there are more opportunities to create a Hollywood-style picture, which can be a key factor in capturing beautiful weddings.

Choosing the Best Cameras for Wedding Photography and Video

When it comes to cameras, there are many people out there who look at and talk about specs and pixel peep all day, but for professionals who actually work in the field, there are three main things to consider when it comes to your camera body: sensor size, resolution, and autofocus.

Sensor Size and Low Light Performance

When considering a camera for weddings, sensor size is of upmost importance. After years of capturing images in all kinds of conditions, it is recommended to only purchase cameras with full frame sensors. Full frame sensors are important because they allow the camera to capture crisp images with low noise in dark conditions, providing clients with the best possible image quality.

The Balance of Resolution

Contrary to belief, the best cameras for weddings and low light are not always the cameras with the highest megapixel count. There are two reasons for this:

  • File Sizes: A high megapixel count creates huge file sizes. Wedding photographers process and edit tens of thousands of images a year and larger file sizes load and process much slower.
  • Pixel Surface Area: Each pixel in a lower resolution sensor has a larger surface area on the sensor compared to a higher resolution sensor, thus allowing more light to be processed on each pixel. The result is that each pixel is clearer and thus the noise is lower.

The Evolution of Autofocus and Subject Tracking

Since 2021, many companies have introduced cameras that shoot in 8K up to 30 fps and offer advanced subject tracking. Technology such as eye tracking is truly revolutionary and results in astronomically better images for your clients. If you are still using a DSLR, jumping to mirrorless for this feature alone is recommended.

Post-Production and AI Enhancements

The world of cinematography is constantly evolving, and 8K video resolution is the new frontier. If the hardware is not available, professional editing software such as DaVinci Resolve is used for color correction. Even if you shoot in 4K, it is possible to upscale your footage to 8K using AI tools. AI work looks amazing as it provides more sharpness, and the details of people’s faces become more distinct. Additionally, AI allows for the addition of the Grain effect, which prevents the image from being too smooth and can give a cinematic look, like on film cameras.

Protecting Your Memories: Digital Storage and Archiving

Your wedding is one of the most memorable events of your life, and the photographs taken on your special day should serve as a record that can be enjoyed for generations to come. Failure to digitally archive and properly store your wedding photos could potentially result in losing them forever. High resolution refers to images that have more pixels per inch (PPI), which means that there’s more information stored in the image file, creating a clear, crisp image that doesn’t have any blurring.

Best Practices for Storage

It’s critical that you safely and securely backup and archive your photos at the highest resolution. Facebook and other social media sites downsize the resolution of the images, digitally compressing them and drastically reducing the image quality; they are not ideal for printing. It is recommended to diversify between several different forms of storage:

  • Cloud Storage: Services including Google Photos, Amazon Photos, Dropbox, and Apple iCloud automatically backup your files.
  • External Hard Drives: Using multiple physical backups prevents a single point of failure.
  • Avoid Relying on USBs: Devices are no longer offering USB ports and USB drives are susceptible to becoming corrupted over time.

Engagement and Couple Photographer Cornwall

As well as being a wedding photographer in Cornwall I am also a professional couple and engagement photoshoots. I love photographing love! In which I do love having photographed couples for the last 15 years in Cornwall and the rest of the world.

Whether you are a new couple or have been married for 50+ years, a professional couple is a wonderful gift. I have photographed couples of many stages of their relationship.

I always make sure the photoshoots are relaxed, unposed, and fun. Not many people enjoy having their photos taken, including me, which is why I make sure that you are both relaxed and happy during the shoot.

Engagement photoshoots are a great way to get used to the camera before your wedding and are offered as part of my wedding photography.
