Cornwall Wedding Photographer

Unposed, Natural, Relaxed Professional Photography

Hey! I'm Steven. I am a Cornwall Wedding Photographer. I have been professionally photographing weddings since 2004 and have captured hundreds of happy couples. Before I was a wedding photographer I was a professional music photographer working worldwide with big acts. My approach to wedding photography is simple: to create a whole story that documents your most important day in the most natural and beautiful way possible. Working on all that the pictures are captured for forever. I will always look to capture your special day naturally and organically, documenting the fun, laughter and happiness as and how it occurs. I cover set up, love, photographs of your big day directing you or your guests. I follow the narrative of the day and capture all of the magical moments.

Comprehensive Guide to Planning a Magical Winter Wonderland Wedding

Winter wonderland is probably one of the best ideas for a marriage celebration, because it embodies all things magical, mysterious and most of all, romantic. Winter weddings are typically smaller, more intimate and packed with atmosphere. Beautiful lakeside views, roaring log fires and candlelit alters are quintessentially a couple’s dream for a winter wedding. From snow covered turrets to hot chocolate or mulled wine instead of champagne for your reception, the finishing touches to a winter wedding venue can be astonishing.

Top UK Venues for a Winter Wedding

If you decide to plan a cosy Christmas celebration or a wedding to usher in the New Year and new chapter, we have the perfect guide to venues for a winter wonderland wedding in the UK.

Syon House

Syon House can host civil ceremonies and smaller more formal receptions. Though Syon House cannot offer areas for dancing during winter, they do offer beautiful luncheons, high teas, drinks or formal dinners. There are two function halls which can be used: The State Dining Room and The Duke’s Private Dining Room. The State Dining Room can host a maximum of 50 guests, with a roaring fire and it is a popular choice for a candlelit ceremony. It is lit by a series of golden torchieres and is filled with LED tea lights and gold Syon chairs.

Great Fosters

Set amongst 50 acres of stunning gardens and land in Egham, Surrey, Great Fosters is a stunning backdrop for a winter wedding. Great Fosters is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and civil partnerships and what a romantic location it is; with its log fires and oak panelling. Karen Kennedy, marketing manager advises: ‘Make sure your venue has pretty indoor spaces suitable for photographs in case the weather is inclement.’

Hedsor House

Hedsor House is a stone’s throw from Central London, with a real countryside feel. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it can be transformed into an intimate wedding venue. Every bride will recall the moment she leaves the bridal suite and descends the Grand Staircase which has an astonishing collection of 12-foot portraits of Hedsor’s former royal guests. As the bride walks down the stairs and into the Centre Hall, there is no feeling quite like it and with winter inspired décor, there is no doubt you will have the winter wedding of your dreams.

Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle is the perfect venue for opulence and history combined. From an intimate ceremony to a magnificent reception room, Warwick Castle is a great way of creating a bespoke wedding, tailored to your needs. For a winter themed wedding, you can take over the Great Hall and State Rooms for your ceremony and reception drinks. You and your guests can enjoy festive handmade canapés and a glass of warm mulled wine for added festive spirit.

Enchanting Winter Wedding Ideas and Decor

Regarding the aesthetic, for any winter wedding, little is more and when it comes down to picking your colour pallete, silver and white crystal features add a touch of sparkle and glamour. Whether you opt for an elegant icy-fresh look or a red berry theme; snowflakes and pinecones are tried and tested winter wedding motifs.

  • The Color Scheme: Instead of overdoing the holiday colors, switch your color palette to silver, white, and crystal accents. For the ceremony, try a white aisle runner.
  • The Flowers: Consider fuller flowers, such as white hydrangeas. Add sparkle to your bouquet by wrapping the stems in ribbon embellished with crystals.
  • The Centerpieces: Bring the winter outdoors inside with ice-carved vases. Ask the florist to put tall branches mixed with tall flowers in water. Hang crystals from the branches for an extravagant winter look.
  • The Cake: Play up the season with a white, vintage-style cake, dusted with edible silver powder. For accents, have your baker add a white sugar ribbon and crystal drops cascading down one side of the cake.
  • Seating Cards: Pinecones painted with snowy white tips are ideal card holders for your winter wedding.

Expert Planning and Practical Tips

Beccy Thorp, head of events at Syon House, has some useful advice: ‘Don’t be drawn in just by the beautiful venue – think about such practicalities as warmth.’ Summer brides offer flip-flops and fans – winter brides should offer rugs or pashminas. Don’t plan on having a vital part of your day outside – looking at all the inside photo opportunities. The sun may shine – but plan for gloom and rain/snow.

In terms of refreshments, rather than setting up a candy bar, think of something everyone enjoys in the winter. Set up a hot cocoa bar for guests to indulge in before the ceremony starts. It’s the perfect wintry detail to remind friends and family of your season while still keeping them comfortable. Hot toddies or hot chocolate with rum in flasks as guests leave at the end of the wedding can be lovely too.
